Sundar Pichai was born on June 10, 1972, in a city called Madurai in Tamil Nadu. His full name is Pichai Sundararajan. He grew up in a loving family in Chennai. His mother, Lakshmi, worked as a stenographer, which means she typed out official documents. His father, Regunatha Pichai, was an electrical engineer. He worked for a company called GEC and looked after a factory that made parts for electrical things.

He studied metallurgical engineering at IIT Kharagpur, followed by graduate study in the United States.
